Community Bushfire Ready Challenge launched - Sign up for the challenge
Posted 10 May 2023
Being prepared for bushfires in one of the most bushfire prone areas of the world is everyone’s responsibility. On May 5, at Agfest, Minister Felix Ellis launched the Community Bushfire Ready Challenge and invites you to take part.
All Tasmanians are invited and encouraged to take part in this new six-week program which will ensure they’re as prepared as possible when the bushfire season arrives.
The challenge aims to inspire community behaviour change regarding bushfire planning and preparation, through a sustainable, formalised, six-week resilience program.
The online program, which begins in spring, gives registered households weekly interactive challenges as they prepare for the bushfire season.
Delivered via email, the challenge topics include Welcome to the Challenge, Know Your Bushfire Risk, Write a Bushfire Plan, Prepare Your Property for Bushfire, Put Together an Emergency Kit and an online webinar workshop.
Each challenge takes participants through a suite of information, resources, advice, and support to educate and encourage them to act to keep themselves safe and prepared for bushfires.
The challenge was piloted last year in Tullah, Bakers Beach and Strahan with great success.
It assisted the households that took part to adopt bushfire plans, prepare their properties and increase their overall bushfire safety awareness.
It is important that every property owner looks critically at their own layout and environmental factors and considers what changes they should make to keep their property and families safe.
The challenge is a good way to educate yourself about being bushfire ready and Minister Ellis urges people to register to take part in the Community Bushfire Ready Challenge.
